Project Summary

The project of renovation and enhancement of the municipal swimming pool in Belvédère is a significant undertaking for the entire city of Tunis, aimed at improving the living conditions of the capital’s citizens and its surroundings.

The challenges of the project in its architectural, urban, and societal dimensions are seen as suitable responses to this specific architecture, serving as a testimony to a cultural moment that every project should fulfill as an opportunity for invention and creation.

In our specific approach to this project, our reading and response have been guided by a single master idea: to be in historical continuity with the monument, while bringing modernity through the use of specific materials and cutting-edge technology.

The architecture of the project must have historical heritage value and be functionally responsive to its program. We have also chosen to preserve all existing architectural elements of the monument, planning for their renovation and restoration. The entire pool is supported by a structure following a 5-meter grid, with a planned coverage of 2000 square meters.

Another major element of the pool is our choice for the structure: a floral-shaped column, inspired by Art Nouveau. By maintaining the idea of continuity and historical integration, the ballroom, an important component of this project, is designed as a “CRYSTAL PALACE,” a jewel of Art Deco, nestled in the abundant greenery of the site. Its transparent structure adds additional heritage value to that of the pool and the entire Belvédère site.

The placement of buildings and access points is carefully considered to reassemble the entire complex of the project with fluidity and functionality.
