Project Summary

Situated on the southern slope of Djebel el Khaoui in Gammarth, a plot with a double slope was chosen to accommodate forty apartments.

To maximize the apartments’ exposure to the outdoors, it was decided to construct two blocks.

A general basement was constructed beneath both blocks, each containing twenty apartments. Each block has a U-shaped form to maximize the apartments’ connection with the exterior.

The floors are organized into half-levels to closely follow the slopes of the surrounding roads that encircle the project. Bioclimatic architecture was favored to reduce heating and cooling costs.

A double masonry facade was created, forming a double skin. This double skin was perforated according to the needs of the actual building facade, considering requirements for sunlight and lighting.

The darker interior facade will accumulate desired warmth in winter, while in summer, when the sun is high, sunlight will only reach the windows.

This space between the two facades will also accommodate all technical installations, drainage systems, and air conditioners.
