Project Summary
Located on the southern flank of Mount Djbel el Khaoui in Gammarth, is a residential complex consisting of 34 semi-detached villas. The residential complex was conceived as a complex ensemble to avoid repetitive units. The inspiration for this project was the medina of Tunis, a residential complex that evolved through the sedimentation of multiple generations and epochs.
This rich sedimentation, characterized by its form accidents and coming and going adjustments, is visible on the walls of the medina. The challenge was to accelerate the sedimentation process in our 34 villas, resulting in a homogeneous yet eclectic ensemble. Thus, all these accidents create a variety of volumes, allowing for shading of a large part of the facade and facilitating passive cooling.
The villas are solely marked by the entrance porches, resembling perfect cubes that establish the private boundary. These porches, akin to skifas, serve as a pause between the interior and exterior spaces.
